Sleep Is Overrated

They tell me sleep will heal the mind,
A place where peace is easy to find.
But I have slept, and still I wake
To find the world just as opaque.

They preach of dreams, of silver tides,
Of gentle nights where sorrow hides.
Yet I have wandered through the deep,
And found no solace there in sleep.

What good is rest when dawn still breaks,
And all the weight of life still aches?
What use is sleep when night’s embrace
Is just a pause, not an escape?

The world moves on; it does not care
If I am rested, if I despair.
So let me rise and pace the floor—
Sleep is a cage; I’ll dream no more.
